FEVERR: From ANIMALS to ZOMBIES

September 13th 2008 08:36
FINALLY, I can ask:
ARE Y'ALL READY TO ROCK??
'Cause, if you are, then yer dedicated, predicated, maybe-educated Rock Relic is gonna be yer tour guide through the Caverns and High Streets in this Musical History Tour through the decade that made it allllll happen: The Nineteen-Sixties!!

Now, as you've probably noticed, the tone here isn't some stuff-shirted, nose-in-the-air mumbo-jumbo by somebody who's got a PhD in BS or whatever; this site's gonna ROCK ... and ya can't do that without lettin' your hair down!!
So grab yer favorite 45 (meaning, 'record' ... not 'liquor!' We do have standards here, y'know ...) or LP, crank up that stereo; then sit back, and let's get on to the business of groovin':

THE BRITISH INVASION

If ya notice the pic on the upper left, you'll see some of the acts that invaded the USofA back in 1964. How many of 'em do you remember? (BTW, you can click on the pic and get a full-size shot of it! Now, don't tell me you've forgotten a few! GEEZ ...)
From the upper left:

THE DAVE CLARK FIVE -- While we're saddened by the passing of Mike Smith and Denis Peyton, guitarist Lenny Davidson is still performing and bassist Rick Huxley (still a fairly-newlywed) has his own electrical business in the London area. Drummer (on stage only. Session guys were on the records!) Dave Clark has become a producer and, as you've read in past posts, a reputation as a ruthless, controlling scammer.

GERRY and THE PACEMAKERS -- Still performing today (but with different lineup)
THE BEATLES -- Though we miss John and George, Paul and Ringo are still onstage!
THE KINKS -- Ray's still trying to get the kinks out for the originals to reunite.
CHAD & JEREMY -- The UK's #1 folk/rock duo are still pulling great shows! (BTW, Jeremy Clyde is actually the great-great-great-grandson of the famed Duke of Wellington, who stopped Napoleon at Waterloo!)
THE ANIMALS -- Today, while Eric Burdon's performing solo, drummer John Steel is carrying on the band's name in the UK with a new lineup.
FREDDIE and the DREAMERS -- Freddie Garrity (center) may be gone, but the Dreamers are still performing today (again, a new lineup).
THE ROLLING STONES -- Awww, c'mon ... do I need to write anything here?
PETER and GORDON -- The duo's back on the road, and Peter Asher (who produced acts like James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt) has now signed on to manage Pam Anderson!

LET'S TAKE A BREAK FOR CHAD and JEREMY, TODAY:

Now, THE SEARCHERS are really tearin' up the circuit as the most popular surviving bands of the Invasion. They're: Jeff McNally (who created the original band, and has been with them since), Frank Allen (who joined up in '64), Spencer James (who did Beach Baby) and Eddie Rothe (of Mud). One of the originals, Mike Pender, has his own band called Mike Pender's Searchers, btw.

Of the last two, HERMAN'S HERMITS are confusing, because frontman Peter Noone is still performing with a support band by that name, while Barry Whitwam (original drummer) fronts a band called Herman's Hermits in the UK. (Awww, you figure it out!!) Bassist Karl is doing sound work, rhythmist Keith is still performing, Lek has passed.

THE ZOMBIES re-formed for the benefit for the late Mike Smith, and are still on the road. In their sets, they also mix in songs from Rod's former group, Argent.

AMERICAN ACTS?? Yeah, there are a few of 'em out there, still rockin' the houses down, whether in Cincy, LA, Branson or Podunk ... and I'll cover some of 'em next time (oh ... want examples, huh?? Okay: Paul Revere & the Raiders, Lovin' Spoonful, Beach Boys, Grassroots, Boxtops and others.). So stay tuned, yardbirds ... we're about to dig into some great times and greater oldies here!

Now, with it bein' near the (sheesh!!) 5 AM here on Saturday mornin', I've gotta get a few zzzz's (after all, aren't cartoons comin' on shortly?? Gotta have those with my Corn Flakes!) Anyway, until then, remember:

If ya got the rockin' pneumonia and the boogie-woogie flu, then you've gotta get ... the FEVERR!!

See ya on the flip side!!
