INVASION BANDS, 2008 ...

September 17th 2008 06:11
2008:
Now, you're gonna see some of the Invasion greats as they are here in the '08 ... but ... this guy??
It's Wayne Fontana (Game of Love), who dressed this way for a court appearance last year in the UK. For more on this, click on The Daily Mail's article.

But "Lady Liberty" is the exception to the rule, as such. Many of the bands (as I toldja in the last post) are still rockin' the house down -- even 44 years later!
For example, The Searchers are wowing audiences all over the world, and have a new CD out! John McNally (founder and guitarist) and Frank Allen (bassist who joined in '64) are now joined by Spencer James (guitar) and Eddie Rothe (drums) to present the best of their past hits as well as newer material!

With songs like She's Not There, Tell Her No and Time Of The Season (originally recorded in 1967 but not released until '69, after the band broke up), The Zombies are one of the busiest and most fan-friendly of all the existing bands from the era. Their music is still extremely tight, and Colin Blunstone's vocals are as fresh as they were back in the mid-Sixties. Add, to that, Rod Argent's fantastic keyboarding (as well as tunes from his Argent days, including Hold Your Head Up) , and you've got a fantastic show!

Now, one of the most anticipated returns was the re-formation of The Yardbirds The band has a mostly-new lineup but still has original members Chris Dreja (rhythm, vocals) and Jim McCarty (drums, vocals). Their sound is still very bluesy, but, when they rip into classics like For Your Love, Heartful Of Soul or I'm A Man, you feel as though you're back in the Sixties again -- they haven't lost a beat!

More bands are gonna follow in the next few posts, but, for now, lemme ask ya something:

Remember when there were so many fake "British" groups puttin' out bargain-bin records in order to cash in on the Beatle phenomenon? They'd throw in terribly butchered versions of I Want To Hold Your Hand and She Loves You and thought the kids would buy their LPs just because they appeared to be from the UK?
Well, one of those "bands" was called "The Buggs", and their "Beetle Beat" LP actually sold better than the other wanna-bes. Maybe you've still got a copy of it. It boasted "The Liverpool Sound" and "Recorded In England".
The only problem (besides the music) was that you were actually listening to four day-workers from Omaha, Nebraska ... and the LP was hastily recorded in Minneapolis, Minnesota!

Well, it's about that time: 2:00 AM on the East Coast, and The Relic's still got a workload ahead of him! But stay tuned, 'cause there'll be more comin' up in less than 24. Until then, remember:

If you've got the rockin' pneumonia and boogie-woogie flu, then yer gonna want to catch the Feverr! each day that ends with "y"!

I'll see ya on the flip side!
