Invasion Rock: ALIVE AGAIN!!

September 16th 2008 08:28
It's COMING BACK!!
The Sounds that made rock the #1 music in the world is returning full-force!
Here ... look at the facts, and draw yer own conclusion:

First, you've got many of the Invasion bands still workin' the circuit. Now, though most of 'em (like The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, The Yardbirds etc) don't have all the original members Gerry Marsden is fronting a whole new lineup of Pacemakers), they still play to sell-out crowds wherever their venue may be. One of the most interesting is the re-formed Manfreds, which is the original Manfred Mann (Do-Wah-Diddy-Diddy) without their famous, keyboardist/leader!

Secondly, you've gotta remember the recent articles in both USA Today and Rolling Stone that said an ever-increasing number of young people are turning away from the synth-sounds and alternative "rock" and preferrin' our generations music (now called "oldies" or "classic rock"). "The songs," said one young collegiate, "are stronger and more solid! And you can really relate to them. Plus, you actually feel good after hearing them."

Now, we'll continue this after we take a break for RockNews:

As you've probably heard by now, Rick Wright -- keyboardist and founder of the legendary Pink Floyd, passed away yesterday of cancer. He'd been battling the dreaded disease for a short time.

Fans from around the world are sending their condolences to his family and the surviving members of the band (his last gig with the band was at their 2005 reunion, when they played the Live 8 event in London's Hyde Park).
Condolences from The Relic to Rick's family as well as the surviving Floyd members.

And, while Macca's makin' plans to play in Israel during the nation's 50th Anniversary, a terrorist has warned the former Beatle that, if he does play, he's going to be shot! Of course, Sir Paul's got enough sense to have personal security, and there's gonna be extra police watchin' the crowd closely -- both from a distance and closerthanthis! So I've got a feelin' that McCartney's gonna put on a great -- and safe (for him) -- show!

Now ... about that third fact:

If ya want proof the music's still alive, ya don't haveta go any further than the UK city of Kent to meet the band that's not just keepin' the Mersey/Hamburg beat alive, but also turnin' thousands of eager rock fans into die-hard "Fore-Heads"!

I'm talkin' about The Fore , undoubtedly the best quartet to come outta the UK since The Beatles. In fact, Spencer, Matt, Luker and Si have traveled much the same road as The Fab Four, but all their material is brand new and composed by bassist/leader Spencer Hannabuss.
Already, with managers Neil and David, these lads have clawed and worked their way up the musical ranks in the same way as the Great Invasion Bands did. And that means that, when they finally get that all-important label, they're gonna have some serious staying power!

Now, on both sides of the Atlantic, the beat goes on in the form of Scotland's Fratellis, America's OK! GO, and others. But The Fore is leading the new Invasion as their tremendous fan base grows with every sold-out, screaming show! When ya listen to them, you're hearing history-in-the-(re)making!
Right now, they've just laid tracks for their second album, Run and Hide (their first, Black & White, has sold countless thousands of copies -- most by word-of-mouth alone!)

So, to answer James Rickard (and, if ya like to go fishing, you'll love his site Angling Fish. It's informative and very comfortable to read!) when he wrote and said In retrospect, even the bands I didn't like back then are pretty cool to watch these days! I wonder if that energy will ever come around again!, that energy is back ... and will continue to grow until it hits stateside shores again as it did back in '64!

Well, that's all the time I have for now. Tune in tomorrow for more rock news, views, histories and mysteries. Until then, remember:

If you've got the rockin' pneumonia and the boogie-woogie flu, chances are you've got THE FEVERR!!

See ya on the flip side ...
