What a great summer it has been.
I was lucky enough to spend some time in New York City and then the icing on the cake was a week of all inclusive fun in Riviera Maya Mexico. It was my first time in New York City and I finally understand what everyone is always talking about.
I’ve always been an outdoors type of person. Give me mountains, fresh air, lakes, the ocean and sandy beaches and I am a happy camper. I think this is why New York never appealed to me.
Oh how I was wrong. New York is incredible!!
So much to see and so much to do it’s enough to make your head spin. For me, the most amazing part of it was the people. This is what makes the concrete jungle so unique. It’s what gives the city its special vibe.
Mexico was a totally different experience. Very laid back and relaxing. Beautiful scenery and time seems to just slow down.
It’s funny how sometimes we tend to forget how amazing certain musicians are. If you have a big music collection like I do you can stop listening to certain artists for literally years because you simply forget to listen.
While relaxing in the hotel lobby after supper, there was a guitarist performing for us and he made me smile by cranking out some Carlos Santana on his guitar. Wow!! What a treat! I had completely forgotten how amazing and unique his music was. It reminded me of how amazed I was when I first listened to the Abraxas album as a kid.
Here’s a quick bio on the career of Carlos Santana and I will also share a link of a live performance of one of my favorite songs by him.
Enjoy!
Carlos Augusto Alves Santana (born July 20, 1947) is a Mexican and American rock guitarist. Santana became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his band, Santana, which pioneered rock, Latin music and jazz fusion. The band's sound featured his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin and African rhythms featuring percussion instruments such as timbales and congas not generally heard in rock music. Santana continued to work in these forms over the following decades. He experienced a resurgence of popularity and critical acclaim in the late 1990s. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine listed Santana at number 15 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.[2] He has won 10 Grammy Awards and 3 Latin Grammy Awards
