The Everly Impact
September 8th 2008 09:20
Geez ... is there anything left to say about The Everly Brothers -- I mean, that hasn't already been said?? Don and Phil have the tightest, most well-built harmonies in the world of music!
Their influence spreads from their old home of Brownie, Kentucky (though Phil was born in Chicago, he's proud to call The Bluegrass State "home") around the world; everyone from Animals to Zombies (with a generous sprinkling of Beatles, Byrds and beards) considered them to be a major factor in their lives.
In fact, only one band actually came thisclose to the harmonies, and that was one from Liverpool called The Del Renas. Their covers of When Will I Be Loved? and Sigh, Cry, Almost Die were amazingly Everly-like and quite popular back in 1963-64.
Oh, yeah -- didja know that, when Linda Ronstadt covered WWIBL (it became a big hit for her), she used Don and Phil among her backing singers? Or that, every year in Central City, Kentucky, there's an Everly Brothers Day (the pic on the top was taken two years ago at the wingding there)? Or that there's a new act about to unfold called The Everlys? According to my RelicSources, it's to be composed of their younger relatives!
THE EVERLYS Vs. GERRY AND THE PACEMAKERS
In this vid, you'll see an unusual "duel" goin' on between two of the hottest acts of '65!
Really Long Link
Well, that's all for now, yardbirds ('sides, it's 5 in the AM here, and I'm gonna get about 300 minutes worth of shuteye). So, until tomorrow, remember:
Keep your eyes on the skies, your feet on the ground, your heart with the music ...
and I'll see ya on the flip side!
